Quonset Huts

A quonset hut home

  • In World War II, the armed forces used quonset huts for housing and storage.  They were lightweight and easy to transport from one location to the next.
  • The huts were named after the first facility to manufacture them at Quonset Point, Rhode Island.
  • Between 150,000 to 170,000 huts were made during World War II.  After the war, the surplus quonset huts were sold to the public for $1,000 per hut.
  • Universities bought them for student housing and returning soldiers for their homes.

Appreciate your compliment about my other blog. Like all things in life, there comes a time when one must move on. One day I may start another blog in who knows what format. I guess it's the gypsy in me to keep moving!
