Bat Conservation International

These black box houses are for bats, one of the most misunderstood creatures on earth.  You'll see these bat houses in state parks and campgrounds.

When I was a little girl, our family of four lived in an old stone house.  Our Saturday night entertainment, following our once-a-week bath, was to sit on our front porch steps, drink orange Hi-C, and watch the bats fly around our yard.

We had a weekly bath, usually on Sunday night. I remember Mom heating water on the gas stove or coal stove and pouring it into a galvanized tub in the kitchen where it would be warmer. One night company arrived. That was my last bath in the kitchen.

Memories. Thanks for stirring them up.

Our lives were so much the same. I wonder if kids today will have the memories about taking baths that we do. Think not.
