Why does it rain most Memorial Day weekends?
The memory of us huddled on a sandbar shivering, brings back the same goosebumps that chilled our bones back then. The weekend we waited for so long, had grown into a monster of gradually worsening anxiety, disappointment and 'pissiness.' After all these years, I'm still trying to find something more disagreeable to a couple than being at the Mighty Mississippi in a cold rain, a leaky tent, wet firewood, damp sleeping bags and thunder in the distance. Not only that, but there's only so many cold wieners a person can consume in three days without turning to cannibalism.
Ahhh, the fun we endured.

My younger daughter and her daughter are camping with friends at a campground in Old Forge, about 45 minutes north. The site is next to the lake and I bet they froze their touches last night in their new tent. The Adirondacks got 6" of snow.
OMG....my heart is with them.
Last night the news said Whiteface (Mountain) got 18". Cold at camp yesterday, today snow showers. I'd pack it up and come home. Tonight is to be even colder.
Just received call. All are packing up and coming home.
